Special giveaway: win la galette des rois!


Each country has its own tradition in matter of food, especially during holidays. Here in France, for instance, the 6th january - the day of Epiphany, even if it is not a public holiday day, there is the tradition to eat the "galette des rois"! This cake is not only delicious: also a special and funny ritual belongs to it. The cake indeed hides inside a little figurine in porcelain: who find this "fève" in her or his slice will be the Queen or the King for the day! And, in order to celebrate this cute cake, I'm glad here of launching a special giveaway for my "galette des rois" in felt, with an authentic "fève" inside (here in the pics). I live in Lithuania and we have few traditional foods but not many occasions when we eat it. But on the Christmas Eve we eat "kūčiukai su aguonų pienu"- it is small peaces of pastries made from leavened dough and poppy seeds with milk made from poppy seeds. I think it is only tradition in Lithuania :)
p.s. here the sixth of january is the day of three kings and on this day we take down all the Christmas decorations :)

i love the idea of this giveaway.
Here in Argentina we eat locro (a traditional plate made with beans) in order to celebrate the may revolution (25th may) also we drink our tipical drink call mate but with a kind o biscuits name "pastelitos"

Amazing!
I live in Rimini, in italy.
And we have a very good cake but with an ugly name: "Piada dei morti" that it means "Flat bread of the deads".
Traditionally we eat the first of november, the "day of deads" a kind of halloween but less spectacular :)
It's a flat bread with sugar, raisins, nuts, pine kernels, almonds and walnuts and it looks like your galette des rois.

Hello! Here in Belgium we also eat "galette de rois". But the name in or country is "driekoningentaart'. I think it is the same :) When you have the puppet or almond, you are the king/queen en when you buy the 'driekoningentaart' there is almost a (paper)golden crown with it! Bye!

Bonjour ! Qu'est ce que c'est joli !!!
I live in the south of france, and here we eat "le gateau des rois" , it's not like the "parisian galette", it's a sort of "brioche" with candied fruits ! (and of corse we ahve a liitle figurine in it) It's like the "roscon de los reyes" in spain.

Hi,lovely giveaway! I live in Singapore and here we eat Tangyuan(汤圆), little glutinous rice balls during the lantern festival. It is soft and chewy and sometimes there is red bean, sesame or peanut paste wrapped inside, it is something like Mochi from Japan but we serve it with a sweet dessert soup like red bean soup and it will make you feel very full afterwards :)

Hai! I'm from Belgium, near to Bruges. There you can find the typical "Brugse kletskoppen" or in french: les dentelles de Bruges!
They are yummy cookies, not really for a special occasion but they are very old!

Che idea carina! :) Io sto vicino a Trieste e qui a Pasqua si mangia un dolce che io trovo semplicemente delizioso: la pinza. Certo che anche la galette de rois sembra proprio sfiziosa...

Hi! Here in Portugal we have a cake that is called "Bolo Rei", in english would be "king cake". We eat it during the advent and them till the 6th of january. It's a traditional christmas cake made with dry fruit like cherries, pumpkin, figs, organde zest, a lot of icing sugar on top and also almends, nuts, hazelnuts and pine nuts.
In the past, maybe until the middle of the 90's the cake also had a dried bean inside and a small metal figure, like a small luky charm. If you'd get the bean you had to buy the next cake, if you get the charm you're blessed with the luck. It was very funny to eat the cake to see if we would find the charm.
Now our sanitary legislation doens't allow to put any of this things inside the cake so it's just the cake.

Hello! Your galette des rois is so cute :)
In Norway we eat a rice pudding at christmas with strawberry sauce, and there is an almond hidden in it. if you find the almond you will get a gift! Often it is a marzipan pig or chocolate santa..the trick is not to show the almond until everybody has eaten up..then its very funny trying to guess who is hiding the almond in his/her mouth!

Hi, I'm from Spain and here you have also the "Roscon de Reyes" which you eat for Three Kings day. Usually it has also the porcelaine figure (most times a king) and a bean, the one who gets the bean has to pay the cake, the one who gets the king is consired as king for that day :-) Thank you for that lovely giveaway, I love your felt items!

What a cute galette des rois! In Brittany (France), we have a cake called "Kouign Amann". Easy to cook, few ingredients (especially butter),yummy and no special occasion for cooking!

Bonjour, je suis française et je vis en France. Au cours de mes divers déménagements, j'ai découvert diverses galettes, la "parisienne" frangipane (ou pommes) que tu décris et reproduit si bien. Mais aussi celle qu'à Toulouse on appelle la "Limoux", c'est une brioche aux fruits confits et enfin, la "franc-comtoise" que je décrirais comme une grosse tarte en pâte à choux recouverte de sucre. J'ai aussi vécu en Grèce où on tire aussi les rois mais dans un gros gâteaux aux noix que je n'ai pas trouvé aussi bon que nos galettes françaises (chauvinisme quand tu nous tiens).
Je suis désolé de répondre en français, mais si je peux lire l'anglais je ne peux pas l'écrire.

Hello :) what an interesting giveaway! I'm from Singapore and we have mooncakes on a chinese festival called Mid Autumn festival. It's a kind of pastry with a thin layer of crust surround a rich, sweet & creamy lotus seed paste - ((mmm so good :) ))
